According to Virginia Clean Cities, the administrator of the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program (SPADP), the fleets that participate in the multi-state program saved an average of $1.62/gallon on fuel during the third quarter.
‘We're nearing the end of the third year of the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program, and we've seen tremendous results in terms of reducing harmful pollutants and emissions, as well as helping regional fleets lower their fuel costs by running on propane autogas,’ says Alleyn Harned, executive director of Virginia Clean Cities.
The public-private program involves fleets in 10 Southeast U.S. states, as well as in Colorado and Pennsylvania. The program's goal is to deploy 1,200 autogas vehicles and 30 autogas fueling stations over a four-year period.
To date, fleets in the program – such as Spotsylvania County, Va.; Veolia Transportation; and Community Counseling Services in Mississippi – have displaced more than 1 million gallons of gasoline.
