The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) says it will issue a $22.3 million multi-topic funding opportunity for vehicle technologies including medium- and heavy-duty plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs); direct injection propane engines; and alternative fuel vehicle community partner projects.
According to the announcement, the funding is to be allocated for the following:
1) Plug-in Electric Drive Vehicle Program – research, develop and demonstrate PEVs in accordance with the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, Section 131.
2) Direct Injection Propane Engine – research, develop and demonstrate a direct injection propane engine for on-road vehicles approved for highway use.
3) Alternative Fuel Vehicle Community Partner Projects – accelerate the use of commercially available alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, and supporting infrastructure technologies, through community-based partnerships between state and local governments and the private sector.
The DOE anticipates this funding opportunity will be posted to the EERE Exchange website in June.
