VIA Metropolitan Transit, the public transit agency in San Antonio, has decided to increase its compressed natural gas (CNG) fleet and purchase 15 used CNG transit buses from Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the agency’s board unanimously approved the $7.35 million deal on Oct. 27, and VIA’s deputy CEO previously said the agency plans to fully transition its fleet to CNG.
The Business Journal says VIA’s current fleet includes 448 buses, but only 22 of them are CNG models. The board vote will push that up to 37 CNG buses. Notably, the agency has also issued a request for proposals seeking new buses, with options for CNG units.
