Evergreen Waste Services, based in Hockessin, Del., has ordered a Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle, the first electric vehicle in the company’s fleet.
The vehicle will operate in a residential area in New Castle County, Del.
Marcus Stevens, president of Evergreen Waste, says Evergreen wanted to support the adoption of electrification and the move toward renewable energy, which is why the company chose to order an electric refuse truck.
The Mack LR Electric will be delivered in this summer.
“We didn’t want to compromise service, reliability or capacity on route,” Stevens says. “We’re looking forward to the Mack LR Electric and Mack Trucks delivering in all of these areas, and we believe they will.”
Evergreen’s Mack LR Electric truck, which will be a rear loader, will operate in a residential setting, with a goal of collecting from about 700 stops per day. Evergreen currently has 42 vehicles in its fleet, 37 of which are Mack trucks.
The Mack LR Electric offers a standard 376 kWh total battery capacity, for 42 percent more energy and increased range between vehicle charges. Twin electric motors produce 448 continuous horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM. Four NMC lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the stops the vehicle makes.
Bergey’s Truck Center in New Castle, Del., will service and support Evergreen’s Mack LR Electric vehicle.
