Princess Cruises and Fincantieri have signed final contracts for the construction of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cruise ships.
The 175,000-ton cruise ships will be the largest ships ever built in Italy, claims Princess Cruises. These contracts follow the initial signing of a memorandum of agreement between the two parties in July 2018.
Each vessel will accommodate approximately 4,300 guests. Notably, they will be the first Princess Cruises ships to be dual-fuel, powered primarily by LNG. The company notes that the use of LNG will significantly reduce air emissions and marine gasoil usage.
The new ships are slated to be delivered in late 2023 and spring 2025.
