Questar Fueling Co.'s plans for a compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling facility in eastern Connecticut recently took a step forward with a town council's OK for the company's land purchase.
Officials in Killingly, Conn., approved Questar's request to acquire property inside the town's industrial park, where it will site a new public-access CNG facility for anchor fleet Frito-Lay North America. However, the town's planning and zoning group needs to give final approval of the plan, according to coverage from The Bulletin (Norwich, Conn.).
The station will be built on approximately four acres – two from a private landowner and about two from the town. Plans call for three fast-fill CNG dispensers and 300 GGE of on-site storage.
Frito-Lay – which operates a distribution plant in nearby Dayville, right off I-395 – is in the midst of converting a substantial number of its heavy-duty trucks to run on natural gas. Until the Killingly station is up and running, the company still has access to CNG at a refueling facility off I-95 that is operated by Norwich Public Utilities.
