In Canada, the Alberta government has awarded C$9.5 million in grants to the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County to support the purchase of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and a new rural transit initiative.
Under its Green Transit Incentives Program (GreenTRIP), the Alberta government has committed to provide funds to municipalities for sustainable public transit alternatives.
The GreenTRIP grants for the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County will go toward the purchase of 10 new CNG buses, four CNG paratransit buses, new system-wide intelligent location technology and a low-floor diesel bus.
“Our government is committed to building healthy, sustainable communities by investing in transit in the Red Deer region and throughout Alberta,” says Brian Mason, the province's minister of transportation.
