Two years ago, a Clean Cities coordinator from Southern California traveled from coast to coast and back again behind the wheel of a natural gas vehicle, using existing compressed natural gas (CNG) stations to refuel.
This week, he is heading back on the road, but this time from Canada to Mexico. Curtis Martin, program coordinator for the Antelope Valley Clean Cities Coalition, will partner with ‘CNG ambassador’ Evelyn Corbitt (who also completed the coast-to-coast trip in 2012) and various members of the CNGchat.com community to drive a CNG-powered Honda Civic from border to border.
The road trip, which is a component of the biennial Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey, is designed to generate interest in natural gas vehicles and highlight the growing network of CNG stations in the U.S. The Civic will be refueling only at public-access CNG stations.
Stops are scheduled in Washington (Lynden and Renton), Oregon (Portland, Lebanon, Eugene and Medford) and California (Saratoga, Paso Robles, Santa Maria, Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego).
