IMPCO Automotive says it has attained U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification of its bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system for the model-year 2014 Chevrolet Cruze – the first, and currently only, such certification.

IMPCO's bi-fuel system will be available for integration into the 1.4-liter sedan beginning next month. The company's certified installation network will handle the natural gas vehicle conversions.

‘We are thrilled to obtain the first EPA certification for a model-year 2014 bi-fuel sedan that provides both fleets and consumers an option when considering gaseous-fueled transportation,’ says Mariano Costamagna, CEO of IMPCO parent company Fuel Systems Solutions.

IMPCO's bi-fuel CNG conversions feature an 8.4 GGE Type 3 CNG tank that offers approximately 200 miles of driving range. The ECOTEC 1.4-liter engine in the Cruze is a turbocharged unit that provides 138 hp and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 38 mpg+.
