Diamond Green Diesel Plant Facing Downtime Due to Damaged Catalyst

The Diamond Green Diesel (DGD) facility, a renewable diesel production plant in Norco, La., will be shut down from Sept. 21 until approximately Oct. 1 to replace a catalyst that was damaged during start-up of the newly expanded facility.

The plant is a joint venture between Darling Ingredients Inc. and a Valero Energy Corp. subsidiary, Diamond Alternative Energy LLC. The facility was recently expanded from 160 million gallons to 275 million gallons per year of renewable diesel capacity.

According to the partners, the issue that caused the damage to the catalyst has been identified and remedied.

“Diamond Green Diesel took longer downtime with the turn-around than expected, and coupled with the scheduled September replacement of the catalyst, total production gallons will be lower in the third quarter than had been projected,” says Randall C. Stuewe, chairman and CEO of Darling Ingredients Inc. “Once back on line, we are confident DGD will be able to quickly achieve the annual rated capacity of 275 million gallons.”
