XL Hybrids Inc. has announced the installation of its XL3 hybrid electric drive system in a Ford E-350 shuttle bus for Door2Door Transportation by SCM, a nonprofit that provides community-based transportation.
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) funded the project through InnovateMass, a competitive program that provides awards to applicant teams that offer innovative and impactful clean energy solutions in the state.
‘Our 27-member fleet is highly visible in the communities we serve as we take our riders to medical appointments, grocery shopping, adult daycare, meal sites and excursions,’ explains John Keegan, interim executive director of Door2Door. “We serve a population that will increase by 40 percent by 2020 and 100 percent by 2030. Our goal is to meet that demand with increasing flexibility and quality of service. XL Hybrids' technology and programs such as InnovateMass allow us to continue serving the most vulnerable citizens in our communities.’
XL Hybrids says the Door2Door shuttle bus will provide a 25% increase in miles per gallon and reduce nearly five tons of carbon-dioxide emissions annually.
