The state of Pennsylvania has awarded grants totaling more than $3 million to 33 fleets through the state's Alternative Fuel Incentive Grants (AFIG) program, which supports light- and medium-duty vehicle conversions to compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and propane autogas.

A sample of the grantees during this AFIG round include the following:

  • Vantage Healthcare Network received about $30,000 to help purchase five propane vehicles to be used for the delivery of linen and pharmacy service to multiple hospitals and nursing homes in western Pennsylvania.
  • Centre County Commissioners and Partners purchased eight dedicated CNG and three CNG bi-fuel vehicles to serve paratransit, police and public works operations. This grant totaled $70,146.
  • Heller's Gas acquired 10 propane trucks, with the help of $124,472 in grant funds: eight vehicles for bulk delivery of gas and two rack trucks.
  • Keystone Quality Transport received $248,000 to convert 74 vehicles to bi-fuel CNG and 73 vehicles to propane, as well as to purchase eight propane vehicles as part of its program to retrofit their entire fleet of para-transit and ambulance vehicles.
