Westport Inks Large Order for Liquefied Natural Gas Storage Systems

Westport Innovations Inc. says Universal LNG Solutions Inc. (ULNG), a company focused on natural gas liquefaction, regasification and related technologies, is purchasing 900 of Westport's iCE PACK liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank systems, which are designed for the on-board storage of LNG in applications such as long-haul trucking.

The order will be fulfilled over the next two years, Westport says.

‘This purchase order will allow ULNG to provide not only fuel flexibility, but provide their fleets with a consistent, high-performance LNG fuel system across a range of vehicles and engines,’ says Steve Anderson, vice president of business development at Westport.

The iCE PACK is customized for spark-ignited engines and provides increased driving range, longer fuel hold times and faster refueling, according to Westport. The company debuted its LNG tank system last November after trial runs were conducted in a Peterbilt 384 truck using Cummins Westport's ISX12 G natural gas engine.

Westport says it anticipates that shipments of the iCE PACK to ULNG will commence this quarter.
