Hexagon Lincoln, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hexagon Composites, has received U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approval to operate it newest Mobile Pipeline product, SMARTSTORE, in the U.S.

According to Hexagon Lincoln, the enhanced SMARTSTORE module offers the highest compressed natural gas volume of any 20-foot container transporting up to 245,000 scf, with a total water volume of 23,175 liters. The company adds it is also suitable for transporting compressed hydrogen gas.

Containing larger cylinders than previous modules, SMARTSTORE achieves greater volume with fewer tanks and connections, Hexagon Lincoln asserts. Horizontal mounting of up to 15 MAGNUMTM tanks sized to the entire length of the module facilitates access to plumbing and reduces maintenance costs.

The company says that the main advantage of its design continues to be a high rate of gas flow and, further, its low weight and compact intermodal dimensions make it ideal for transporting energy gases by road, rail and sea.

“U.S. DOT approval allows North American customers to take advantage of lower-capital expenditures for clients requiring a smaller footprint than our TITAN trailer,” says Frank Häberli, vice president of the company’s Mobile Pipeline division. “We are pleased to provide off-pipeline customers a full range of competitive, lightweight, bulk-hauling options for clean-burning natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen.”
