Kenworth Truck Co. says its T880 – one of the company's strongest offerings in the vocational and other truck markets – is now available with a factory-installed natural gas power plant.

T880 daycabs and 52-inch mid-roof sleepers can be ordered with Cummins Westport Inc.'s ISX12 G engine, rated at 400 hp/1,450 lb.-ft. of torque, the company says. The ISX12 G can be paired to a manual, automatic or Eaton UltraShift Plus transmission for use in various applications – including refuse, dump and mixer trucks – up to 80,000 lbs. GCVW.

‘The new natural-gas powered Kenworth T880 especially appeals to vocational fleets and truck operators interested in the T880's excellent durability, reliabilty and driver comfort combined with cost-efficient natural gas,’ says Kurt Swihart, Kenworth's marketing director.

The ISX12 G can run on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) and does not require a diesel exhaust fluid tank, diesel particulate filter or selective catalytic reduction technology. In addition to Cummins Westport, Kenworth has partnered with companies including Agility Fuel Systems and Trilogy Engineered Solutions to provide its natural gas truck options, which also includes the T440, T680 and T800.
