Natural gas company MetroGas has partnered with EMT Madrid, a large Spain-based transit company and compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station operator, to develop CNG infrastructure primarily in and around Miami-Dade County, Fla.

The consortium, which intends to ultimately branch out to build CNG stations throughout Florida, includes fueling infrastructure firm ET Environmental and natural gas producer Enrema.

‘Our community has taken a step in the right direction by converting to natural gas,’ says Daniel Mac-Crohon, president of MetroGas. ‘As a local company with deep ties to the community, we are excited to bring the world's most impressive CNG operator to our backyard. EMT Madrid's extensive experience in alternative energy, and its nearly seven-decade history operating a mass transit system, make us uniquely positioned to take on this important task.’

EMT Madrid, founded in 1947, operates more than 2,000 transit buses in Spain and Peru. EMT's CNG station in Sanchinarro in Madrid offers fill times of about three minutes per bus, the company says.
