New Class 7 Propane Autogas Truck Makes Debut

Alkane Truck Co., a startup vehicle OEM based out of South Carolina, has introduced a Class 7 cab-over truck platform engineered to run on propane autogas.

Available in two models – the 33,000 lbs. GVW P-33 and the 26,000 lbs. GVW P-26 – the truck features a 6.8-liter Ford Triton V-10 engine that has been modified to run on gaseous fuel. The fuel system is direct-injection, liquid-propane technology from Bi-Phase Technologies LLC – the same maker of the autogas systems that can be found in Schwan's Home Service Inc.'s 3,000+ propane-powered delivery vehicles.

‘No longer are propane distributors locked into the high prices of gasoline or diesel for their fleets,’ says Steve Rayborn, Alkane's national sales director. ‘Now, they can fuel their trucks with the very product they deliver.’

‘We are extremely pleased to unveil our alternative fuel vehicles to the U.S. marketplace,’ adds Bob Smith, the company's founder and CEO. ‘We've worked diligently to design and deliver only the highest-quality propane-powered trucks that meet or exceed all performance, utility and safety specifications for the industry.’

Alkane notes that the P-33 and P-26 are both EPA- and CARB-certified for use on U.S. highways. A number of existing truck dealerships – particularly in the Midwest, Southeast and Souther California – have signed MOUs with the company to begin offering the propane trucks.
