Alabama School Fleet Begins Propane Autogas Deployment

Mobile County Public Schools, the largest school district in Alabama, has initiated the deployment of 30 propane autogas full-size school buses from Blue Bird Corp., which are equipped with autogas systems from ROUSH CleanTech.

The companies note that each bus will displace about 40,000 gallons of diesel fuel over its lifetime, as well as reduce CO2 emissions by 150,000 lbs.

Mobile County is the first school system in Alabama to use propane buses.

‘Fueling with propane autogas provides the opportunity for quick return on investment, offering school districts a viable alternative solution,’ says Todd Mouw, vice president of sales and marketing for ROUSH CleanTech. ‘By choosing this safe, abundant and American-made fuel, Mobile County Public Schools is leading the state with its environmental commitment.’

During its initial implementation, the school system will monitor the efficiency of the buses and share information with other school systems interested in alternative fuels.
