New York State’s EV Charging Network Begins to Take Shape

ChargePoint Inc. has installed the first of more than 80 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations planned for New York through a $1 million program supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The station was installed at The Solaire residential building in Battery Park City in Manhattan.

‘Through Governor Cuomo's 'Charge NY' program, the state is taking a proactive approach to investing in an EV infrastructure that will encourage New Yorkers to transition from less efficient vehicles to electric vehicles,’ says Francis J. Murray Jr., president and CEO of NYSERDA.

Last year, Cuomo announced $4.4 million in awards to 10 EV companies, municipalities and other entities, including ChargePoint, to bring 325 charging stations to New York. And earlier this year, the governor announced the Charge New York initiative, which will see $50 million invested over five years, with a goal of installing 3,000 public and workplace charging stations by 2018.

ChargePoint has already been working with private garage owners and commercial customers to pilot Level 2 charging stations throughout the state of New York.
