Student Transportation of America Inc. (STA) has been awarded a contract to supply more than 500 vehicles – including 400 propane autogas-powered school buses – to the Omaha and Millard school systems in Nebraska.

Blue Bird Corp. and ROUSH CleanTech will deliver the propane vehicles, and Navistar subsidiary IC Bus will supply additional vehicles, according to STA. The contract begins in August 2013 and is slated to run six years. STA is planning to open at least three facilities in the Omaha area to service the school districts' fleets.

The Metropolitan Omaha Education Consortium's Interlocal Transportation Association is executing the contract on the cities' behalf. The consortium is a group of school districts and educational-services organizations that have partnered with The University of Nebraska – Omaha on various projects.

The new complement of Blue Bird/ROUSH CleanTech vehicles represents the largest propane-powered school bus fleet in the U.S.
