BC Transit’s Fuel-Cell Bus Fleet Notches Operational Milestone

Ballard Power Systems says the fuel-cell-powered bus fleet that BC Transit is currently operating in British Columbia recently logged its one-millionth mile of revenue service.

The BC Transit fleet, which consists of 20 buses powered by Ballard FCvelocity-HD6 fuel-cell modules, has been in service since January 2010. Ballard says it is the largest fuel-cell-powered bus fleet in operation.

‘We are pleased with the continued improvement in overall bus fleet performance over time and are delighted with BC Transit's ongoing support of this important initiative,’ says Paul Cass, Ballard's vice president of operations. ‘Many decision-makers in the global bus market are following the Whistler experience closely and will be interested in the results to date.’

Ballard notes that, to date, BC Transit has completed almost 10,000 safe refuelings for this fleet.
